22.05.26 - St. Mary's Church Eglwys Santes Fair

Mari Mathias

Mari Mathias Band creates music driven by landscape, tradition and the Welsh language. Drawing on folk melodies from West Wales, Mari brings surging energy to the stage alongside her six-piece band, combining delicate melodic vocals with powerful storytelling and exhilarating folk sounds.

Mari has performed at major festivals including Cambridge Folk Festival, Lorient Interceltique Festival, Green Man and Between the Trees, and is widely recognised as one of the rising voices of modern Welsh folk.

“Atmospheric trad-folk… melodies from the mists of time.” Laugharne Weekend

Mae Mari Mathias Band yn creu cerddoriaeth am dirwedd, traddodiad a’r iaith Gymraeg. Gan ddefnyddio alawon gwerin o Orllewin Cymru, mae Mari yn dod ag egni bywiog ar yllwyfan ochr yn ochr â’i band chwech aelod, gan gyfuno lleisiau melodig, cain gyda straeon pwerus a synau gwerin cyffrous.

Mae Mari wedi perfformio mewn gwyliau mawr gan gynnwys Cambridge Folk Festival, Lorient Interceltique Festival, Green Man a Between the Trees, ac mae hi’n cael ei hadnabod yn eang fel un o leisiau cynyddol gwerin Cymru fodern.

“Atmosfferig, gwerin traddodiadol… alawon o niwl amser.” — Laugharne Weekend

Gitan

Gitân

Gitan

Gitân make new material with poetic threads of Hindi, Welsh, Urdu and Sanskrit…with sung threads of classical Indian vocal styles and folk songs from Wales… and with instruments that do not normally dance together - Indian harmonium and Celtic lever harp. Epic classical poetry in Hindi Urdu and Sanskrit sits next to, and falls into, personal, tender, domestic folk songs from Wales. The colours blur, the differences melt away, and we begin to sing and share the songs and music from these diverse cultures with one sonic voice.

Mae Gitân yn creu deunydd newydd gydag edafedd barddonol o Hindi, Cymraeg, Wrdw a Sansgrit…gydag edafedd cân o arddulliau lleisiol clasurol Indiaidd a chaneuon gwerin o Gymru…a chyda offerynnau nad ydynt fel arfer yn dawnsio gyda'i gilydd - harmoniwm Indiaidd a thelyn lifer Geltaidd. Mae barddoniaeth glasurol epig mewn Hindi, Wrdw a Sansgrit yn eistedd wrth ymyl, ac yn syrthio i, ganeuon gwerin personol, tyner, domestig o Gymru. Mae'r lliwiau'n pylu, mae'r gwahaniaethau'n toddi i ffwrdd, ac rydym yn dechrau canu a rhannu'r caneuon a'r gerddoriaeth o'r diwylliannau amrywiol hyn gydag un llais sonig.
